Let's review the glorious moments in the century-old course of the CPC via the classic red artworks produced by Dongguan artists.

Socialist Revolution and Construction Period (1949-1978)

During the period of Socialist Revolution and Construction, some artists such as Deng Bai, Li Binghong, Lu Baisen and Li Hanyi, recorded through their works how Chinese people actively responded to the CPC's call and were engaged in the construction of national infrastructures while others such as Guo Tongjiang, Tang Ling depicted plenty of village life of people who lived in the 1960s and 1970s in Dongguan.

“Setting up Wires” Guo Tongjiang

Guo Tongjiang(1925—2003), an eminent comic book painter, came from Machong, Dongguan. Entitled as a Cantonese representative of comic books, he was a deputy director of Dongguan Culture Center and the third director of the China Artists Association.

Created by Guo in 1953, this traditional Chinese painting depicts people in Dongguan setting up overhead wires. In the prelude of the work, the author described power grids as “spider’s websacross the Pearl River and telegraph poles”, and he considered this scene bears the memory of the times.
